Should work fine. Maybe the //e's keyboard is defective? Or, is
there a joystick connected that's interfering? Run this little program
to view the status of the buttons:
10 PRINT PEEK(49249),PEEK(49250):GOTO 10
[Just boot to basic, type 'NEW', hit return, type in that line
above, then 'RUN' and hit return. Hit Control-C or control-reset to
exit]
That program will continually check on the status of the open and
closed apple buttons (which are software indistinguishable from the 2
buttons on the joystick), and print them on the screen. If the value
is <127, the key/button is not being pressed. If it's >=128, it's
down.
