I don't just distribute the NAUG Printer Disk; I personally use the
drivers to print from AppleWorks Classic to my HP LaserJet. You say that
it will "print fairly well" and I say "that's not good enough; it should
print perfectly." So, a word of advice...if you're getting a strange
character at the start of a printed document, you may have to go to AW's
custom printer set-up options (go to Other Activities, then Printer Info,
and finally to Interface Cards) and you may have to make a minor change.
When I first got the NAUG Printer disk, I saw an "80" at the start of my
documents, so I changed the code from Control-I 80 to Control-I N, and
all has been well since then. You may have to make a similar adjustment.
That Videx Uniprint card hasn't been manufactured in years, so the exact
codes for that card are not included in the NAUG database...I presume
because no one who had that card submitted any info when the NAUG Printer
disk was being prepared.
Likewise, with the Harmonie drivers. They support many 'popular' parallel
interface cards, but obviously not all of them. Keep your eye on
csa2.marketplace. In the past week, I've seen parallel interface cards
that do work with Harmonie offered for as little as $10 or $20.
