Background tasks are what cause most of the problems with high speed 
telecommunications. The most likely culprits seem to be screen blankers, 
clocks, and programs that activate extended keyboards.

If you have Nifty List (a programmer's utility CDA) you can use the ~m 
and ~h commands to list the background tasks in your system. You might be 
surprised to see how many of them you have.
