//GS Help/Ram

I've got a Ramkeeper and it used to work about a year ago. I took it out
because of the continuous crashes, thinking that was why. But am getting
the External ibm power supply soon. I'd like to use this again and get up
to 8 meg or more(I've already got 4 meg). Well there is a black chip or
something right below and to the right, next row of the green light
toward the back of the card with 3 leads going into the board and it
seems to be black on the back side as if it got hot at one time or
another. I believe it is a Motorola as it has an M circled. The id on it
says: P42A
        749
Maybe this'll shed some light. My question is can I replace this
piece on the board. I justtried to use it as before with 4 meg + 1 meg
and it wouldn't boot. Tookout RamKeeper and put the 4 meg back in and the
GS works fine.
Also is there anyone out there who knows if there is anyway to
upgrade this board for more efficiency?
And can someone tell me why I can't put an 8 meg and my 4 meg
card in and with the ramkeeper and get 12 workable megs of Ram on my GS
that is a ROM 01? I read somewhere along the way that you could get up to
16 megs of useable RAM with the GS. (That'd be nice!!!)

                        Thanks,
                          Mike
