Umm.... you opened up your hard drive?  Not a good idea, from what I've
gathered.  It's a great way to ruin them.  The smallest specks of dust can
look like boulders to the heads, especially with the speeds they can spin
at.  If you didn't have any troubles with the hard drive after opening it
up, conseider yourself very lucky.  Out of curiosity, how old is your hard
drive?
