The print I've seen from a StyleWriter has always been a bit better than
from a DeskJet/DeskWriter. The main problem is that it dosn't have built
in fonts. Thus, if you don't have very large (4X) point sizes of bitmaps,
fonts look jagged. The StyleWriter really needs Pointless to do it
justice.
Interestingly, the DeskWriter (not "jet") has the same problem.
The reason the DeskJET 500's print seems better is because you are using
its built in fonts and don't need large bitmaps or Pointless to make it
look good.
Using Pointless, the StyleWriter beats both the DeskWriter and the
DeskJet in sharpness (even with DJ internal fonts).
BTW, the Canon bubble jet printers use the same print head as the
StyleWriter and they work great with the GS using the freeware
Epson LQ driver. The BJ's can also print from 8-bit software.
