IIgs -to- MAC?
Hi, I am new to this group so apologise if subjects I raise have been
gone through recently.
I have just purchased an Apple IIgs. I bought it because it was in very
good condition (apart from the keyboard which has had a slight accident
and knocked a few key tops off) and it seemed to work.
What sort of computer is it though? It seems to use prodos, but I only
know that from the minimal software I got with it. That software was at
least ten years old. It was ' DazzleDraw' a painting program, and
'Garfield' a children's software on either side of a 5 1/4" floppy.
My IIgs has an odd shaped but very full looking expansion card in the
expansion slot for RAM. There is no HD as far as I can see.
There are two external drives, a 5 1/4" and a 3 1/2". I don't have any
software or proper version of Prodos or any OS for it at all.
It has an RGB monitor which looks in good condition and works OK.
My questions are:-
1. Where can I get software for the IIgs?
2. Can the IIgs be upgraded to, say, MAC OS?
3. Will the IIgs take an internal HD?
4. The CPU and keyboard are separate. Is this the norm?
5. What sort of application software do people norrmally run
on the IIgs? Is the computer still in serous use anywhere?
6. Why does the RGB monitor (sept '86) not run when connected to a
macintosh IIcx ('91)?
7. What would be the top spec for one of the machines?
I suppose one of the reasons I got the IIgs was it's family resemblance to
a Mac, and the thought that it could perhaps work on an old Mac OS.
Can anyone help with these points?
