Not very much.  It basically consists of a few opto-isolators to
connect the MIDI bus to the serial port, and a clock generator to
produce the MIDI bit clock (32 kHz? times 16) which is fed into the
IIgs via the HShkIn pin.  The box is powered off the HShkOut pin,
if I remember right (which cannot provide much current, so low power
components must be used).
