AFAIK, either Independence or Harmonie will drive the DeskJET series and
other PCL 3 compatible printers (not sure about the colour tho'),
however... If you are buying a DeskWRITER for your Mac, you will not be
able to use it from your IIgs.

I'm not sure what makes the DeskWRITER (DW) different from the DeskJET
(DJ) (apart from the name) in PCL 3 (graphics-mode) printing.  The DW
series certainly won't print in any "plain-text" mode as the DJ will.

Personally, I think the DJ is more versatile than the DW because it it not
specifically built for any one computer type. However, the modern DJs
don't come with serial ports, which leaves me in a bit of a dilemma when I
come to retire my trusty DJ 500 :(
