//e and SuperDrive
Greetings everyone,
Some time ago I bought a SuperDrive card and an AMR 1440K drive
for my //e, not just to transfer my AW files to my Mac, but also to tidy
up my games collection :-).
While copying the AW files from my 5 1/4" discs, Copy ][+ 6.0
would now and then give the message "DISK NOT IN DRIVE" while writing,
even though there is a disc in the AMR drive :-(.
When I took the AMR drive to one of the "hardware docs" at my
Apple user group, he said it had to do with some hardware fault in the
drive, which was interrupting the "disc in drive" signal. But he would
not touch the thing with his soldering iron because of the many
hard-wired changes inside. It had, he said, nothing to do with the card.
This leaves me with two questions:
i) Would it be worthwhile to have the AMR drive repaired?
ii) If not, can you connect an external SuperDrive, as sold for
the Mac, to my //e? Do you need an adapter to cope with different
pin-outs?
Reactions by e-mail please :-).
Yours sincerely,
