   If those two were the only machines on the network, your cabling
was of high quality, etc, you could _approach_ the theoretical
transfer. Fact is, apart from some carefully coded demo programs, 
nobody's performance is the theoretical.

   If other computers are appletalked in, they must _share_ the
bandwidth, just as they are sharing the cabling. If your cable is
excessively long (>50 feet, I think), low quality, or runs next to
a Van deGraf generator, your performance is also gonna fall off.
