Actually, that could be any combination of up to six drives, but no
more than two Apple 3.5 Drives, and no more than two Apple 5.25 Drives
(or equivalent). For example, you could use six UniDisk 3.5 drives,
five UniDisk 3.5s and one Apple 5.25, four UniDisk 3.5s and one each
of the other two types, etc.
The limit of six drives is due to signal loading and power requirements.
You won't necessarily tie up those three slots, either: with ProDOS-8
1.9 and earlier, the first four 3.5" drives will go in slot 5 and slot
2, but if you also have /RAM5, then you will only be able to access
three 3.5" drives, and if you have a disk controller of some kind in
slot 2, then you will only be able to access two (one if you have
/RAM5).
With ProDOS-8 2.0 and later, the first two 3.5" drives (or /RAM5 and
the first 3.5" drive) will go in slot 5, and subsequent 3.5" drives
will be remapped to unused slots. (If you also have a SCSI card, you
might not have enough unused slots to remap everything.)
With GS/OS, you will be able to access all the drives, assuming you
have the appropriate drivers installed, and slot 5 (and 6, if using
5.25" drives) are set to the internal function.
