The problem you describe sounds like a dirty screen control on the flyback
transformer.  Some controls are cleanable, some are not.  This problem can
also be a pix tub going bad (the flexing of the elements inside the pix tub
short out when heated up).  Also, the main power regulater in the monitor
may not be regulating when it warms up.  All of the fixes (exc pix tub) are
minor fixes and dont require a lot of money.
