Why doesn't someone make a "GS on a card" for the PowerMacs.
That way you don't have to worry about software emulation speed loss and
then you have all the facilities of the PowerMac to take advantage of.
Kinda like what the //e card should have been (I still think they could
make the //e card better). Too bad they won't make one for the newer
PowerMacs...Imagine how fast //e software could go then (provided Apple
doesn't put things in there to intentionally cripple it -- Apple III
anyone?).
I don't think a "brand-spankin'" new computer would survive in
the market. Make an add-on for current macs or pcs giving them //
compatibility and you've got a market. Imagine having a "GS in a window"
or maybe if it could be done, a mode where the GS takes over the full
screen of the mac, now that would be cool. I think this is the only
realistic route to go. Software emulation is just too slow (not to
mention the weird ways the apple //gs operates with it's sound ram and
such). A card that had these things on it would make emulation so much
smoother. While you're at it, have options in the "gs in a mac" control
panel where you can steal mac ram. Imagine allocating 1 meg to the sound
ram or something like that. Since it's most likely that most of us will
or already have another computer, why not build on that? It's an idea,
whether it's good or not I leave to you guys...
