Re: Apple Super Serial?

Apple Super Serial Card
Note: This information is shamelessly copied from the Apple ][ Super
Serial Card Installation and Operating Manual (Copr. Apple Computer,
Inc, 1981), and as such is probably subject to Apple's copyright.
Note: The Super Serial Card can operate in two different
modes..."communications" mode or "printer" mode...and the function of
a few of the switches is mode-dependent.

About the terminal jumper block:
The terminal jumper block (the chip-like thing with the arrow)
determines the wiring of the DB-25 connector. When the arrow on the
block points to the word TERMINAL, the SSC output connector is wired
as DCE; that is, the SSC is prepared to talk directly to a printer or
another computer's modem port, without the use of a null-modem
adapter. When the arrow on the jumper block points to the word
MODEM, the SSC is wired as DTE and is prepared to talk to DCE such as
a modem, again, without the use of a null-modem adapter. The use of
a null-modem adapter is equivalent to reversing the position of the
jumper block.
SIC P8 and SIC P8A emulation: These modes are provided for
compatibility with the original Apple Serial Interface Card firmware.
In other words, you probably don't need to use these modes.
