Well that's what I was thinking might be the case, but it doesn't seem
at likely now. I managed to make my system stable by rearranging my cards.

The SS is a little tall, and since it has to be in slot 3 on my ROM 1, it
sits right over the CPU socket. When I put the lid on and then put the
monitor on top it was pressing on the zip cable. (I had the zip in Slot 2)
I moved the zip to slot 1 and flipped the connector which gave the SS hard
plastic to rest on. But I had to move my HS SCSI from slot 1 to slot 6 and
move my Disk ][ controller from 6 to 7, which means now I can't use
Appletalk and the Disk ][ at the same time, but I can't ever remember
wanting to do that anyway. The system worked fine at first but after a while
it started crashing. When I took off the lid it was extremely hot inside.
Since then I'v been running with the lid off for many hours without any
crashes.
