System 6.0.1 Trouble

I am having trouble with system 6.0.1 on my GS.  The problem is that when 
I read files of type GWP, all quote marks show up as "T" and "U" 
respectively and all "'" show up as "U."   For example, the word "don't" 
shows up as "donUt."  This is the strangest thing I have ever 
encountered!  Can anybody tell me if there is a way to fix this problem?

     My system is a ROM 01 IIGS with 1.25 megs of RAM and 1 3.5-inch 
drive and a 5.25-inch drive.
