Re: Apple's next move (was Apple II just won't die.)
I'm not going to quote any of the previous posts, but I would
like to say that I think the best place for the Apple II line to
re-emerge is in the over hyped $500 Internet box machines. An Apple IIGS
type system with a real 15 mhz 816 based system (no more of this 1 mhz
I/O crap), 2 megs RAM, and 640x480x256 video with GS/OS would run wonders
compared anything MacOS/DOS/Win95/Sun could do on equal hardware because
with the exception of DOS, what operating system would run on those
memory requirements? And GS/OS has been well tested and debugged by now.
Throw in the capability to run Appleworks and now it becomes a really
cool $500 machine. I think there's a market for that, but at this stage,
it probably won't happen either.
