I do get faster file transfers with the TurboASB, but only with highly
compressible data (ie. raw text, MODs, etc.) Data that have already been
compressed (SHK, ZIP, SIT, GIF, JPG, etc.) do not transfer any faster.
Let me try to explain it. 28.8 modems achieve higher data transfer rates
by using compression (V.42bis or MNP 5.) With a maximum compression ratio
of 4:1, you get the theoretical maximum of 115,200 bps. The TurboASB can
go as fast at 230,400 bps, but even with a hyper-accelerator I don't
think you'll ever go that fast on a IIgs (plus, you'd need a modem that
is capable of that kind of speed, the only one I know of is the Hayes
Optima.)
I hope that helps.
