Help geting online with an apple ii c+

Hello:
I have a friend who has recently been given an apple ii c+.  He would 
like to get a modem for it and atleast be able to access local boards.  
My first question is what type of modem does he need to work with this 
computer?  Next what communications software does he need to work with 
this type of setup?  Is it possible for him to be able to access the 
internet with this type of system?  If you can give me any places that 
might carry the modem, or the software it would be a big help.  I look 
forward to any information I can pass on to him regarding this setup.
