Help Appleworks to Mac by serial port

I noticed in the news archives that this question has been asked over 100 
times, but the usual advice is to use a 3 1/2" drive.  This is impossible 
for me.

I transferred Appleworks 2.0 WP formatted files to the Mac by 
Zterm/Zlink, but Clarisworks 4.0 can't see them.  I set it to 
Appleworks.  Do I have to change the filetype on the files?  Any help 
would be appreciated.  Using text would remove all the formatting.
