Back when I got my second hard drive (piggybacked on the first),
I had the same problem. I had one heck of a time (and a long time at
that) finding out the problem. 20,30 calls to tech support, I think.
Anyway, the problem turned out to be faulty termination. The solution
was a passive terminator.
