It's not Apple's fault, it's the RF designers'. The RF is designed to
deal with storage devices only, whereas the Apple card is a general-
purpose SCSI controller with no special knowledge of any specific
devices. That's why you need a software driver for each type of device
you use with the Apple card, while the RF already knows about hard
drives, CD-ROMs and some other types of drives, but for each new device,
the RF's ROM needs to be updated to handle it.
This has always been one of the big turn-offs about the RF for me. I
prefer software updates over hardware ones. Of course, on an Apple II,
there being no useful support for non-storage SCSI devices (yet), this
is not really much of a limitation.
