I did an ftp://ftp.ugcs.caltech.edu/pub/nathan/fixfont2.0.shk and got
fixfont2.0shk. Unshrinking the file produce two Text info files and
FixFontMgr601. (An Icon Info check shows 2.0 as the version number.)

Before installing FixFontMgr601, it seemed like a good idea to produce
the error. So, the NARF.8 font was removed from SYSTEM/FONTS, and Teach
was started by double-clicking a Teach file using the NARF.8 font. Sure
enough, with no NARF.8 font available, selecting "Choose Font" produced a
system hang.

FixFontMgr601 is a permanent initialization file. After copying
FixFontMgr601 to SYSTEM/SYSTEM.STARTUP, the system was re-booted and the
Teach test repeated. This time when "Choose Font" was selected I was shown
a list of available fonts-- the system did not bomb. Thanks!
