Cannon recently obsoleted the BJC 4000 in favour of the 4100.
The only difference between the two is the 4100 has 720x360
resolution in both color and b/w while the 4000 has 760x360
in b/w and 360x360 in color. The other MAJOR difference is
that the 4100 no longer has the dip switches that the 4000 has.
These switches allowed you to configure the 4000 as an IBM
Proprinter X24E or an Epson LQ 2550. Configured as an IBM,
you could print from any apple 2 program that has a driver
you could print from any apple 2 program that has a driver
for the proprinter, any star printer, and okidata printer.
As an epson, you could use any program that had an epson
compatible printer driver. Of course you could use a program
with a Cannon BJ driver. Thus any apple 2 software prints
to the 4000. I got one and experimented extensively with
no problems. Since they are "obsolete" the 4000s are going
dirt cheap.
