Whatever happend to Applied Engineering?

For years AE was the biggest player in the Apple II market, and they had a
number of Mac products as well.

At one point  my ][plus had five different AE cards installed.

Then, one day, I heard that they had gone out of business.  Does anyone
know what happened?  I've done WWW searches without success.

I don't need tech support or anything like that.  I'm just curious.
