Sounds to me like a bad RAM in the new/used IIe. Try doing a
closed-apple, control-reset and running it thru its built-in diagnostics.
There will be a display of 1000000 or 0111111 or something like that that
will show the bad ram. I cant remember if it is a 0 or 1 that indicates a
bad ram. The ROMs that get changed in the enhanced IIe are at locations
UE8-Rom C/D, UE10-Rom E/F, and UF4-Video Rom.
