2qwk! 2.02 coming
The greatest 8-bit offline reader for the Apple is about to make yet
more strides. 2.02 is in preliminary release form, so it should be out
in the very near future. (There's a bug which suddenly popped up in
adding some features, so it's not in-the-can quite yet, but that's the
whole point of prerelease versions, isn't it?) New stuff it does:

2qwk! 2.02 - Now with bleach!
$. Startup
&. Now only displays conferences that have messages.
&. New speedier disk i/o routines that are block based
$. Preferences
&. New preferences item to control whether "Re:" is prefixed to the
subject on replies.
&. Added 24 hour clock option (cmd-select hardware:clock).
$. General
&. Tabs in messages are now displayed, and the default ruler is now
more standard (8 chars between tab stops).
&. Optimized multiplication code (used in file positioning).
*. The format of the rep.ndx file is now the same as a standard ndx
file (5 bytes per message).
*. Rewrote pkstore routine to set the fpos past deleted messages. Not
only is it faster but it should be able to recover from a mangled
message header.
*. The ndx file is kept open while the conference is open, this speeds
things up a bit.
$. The minibrowser
&. Press option-return to activate. On a blank line this will bring up
a list of all the txt & dir files in the program directory. On a line
with a pathname (e.g. '/disk1/') it will bring up that directory. You
can also use shortcut pathnames. [other info trimmed out]
$. Fixes
&. The dialog label for a new message no longer says it's a reply.
&. Fixed (swapped) registers (x & y) for mouse routines.
*. Fixed bug that messed up the packet info window.
*. You can now skip (backward) past deleted replies.
*. Fixed the keypad layout for reading messages.
$. Install
&. More detailed display of what's happening.
&. Includes qfix jr. (if prodos hasn't been patched)
*. Does 'system' patch.
*. Does 'angle' patch (program directory).
$. Qfix
&. Also patches prodos in memory to skip restart.
&. When launched without arguments, multiple patches can be applied.
&. Much faster disk operations.
&. Indicates disk accesses for i/o fun!

You'll be alerted when it comes to fruition. Ahh, but where to find it
now that Caltech (the first choice of FTP sites) and Grind (the second)
are going the way of the Mac Classic... Will tell you that, too.

* 2qwk! 2.01 * FILEMAN.EXE: Windows file name, standing for File Mangler.
