: I timed a jpeg on my MacLC and Rom1GS 8/64 ZipGS with 4Meg RamGS. The MacLC
: is very basic. No extra video ram, 4Meg Ram, 12 RGB monitor (256 colors,
: 512 x 384 pixels) System 7.0. Jpegview3.3 was MacLC viewer.
: Parrot JPEG from the Jpegview3.3 package. jpeGS used integer math option.

: Both viewers set to display after opening.
: No SecondSight
: Open to finish display MacLC IIGS Rom1 Zip8/84
: Jpegview 3.3 jpeGS v1.0

: <20 secs 9 min 33 secs
: 256 color pic 16 color pic

: Thus, jpeGS was over 25 times slower than the MacLC/Jpegview3.3 combo.

: jpeGS needs at least a 20x speedup. 50-100 x speedup would be nice.
: A jpeg viewer on a accelarated GS SHOULD be faster than a MacLC product.

That would be nice - *however* keep in mind some of the inherent
limitations of the 65816 processor. It has no built-in multiply instruction,
and JPEG can perform *millions* of 16 and 32-bit multiplies for each
picture. And if you want really fast multiplies, you need some
hardware. A version of JPEG that used floating-point multiplies
and worked with an FPE would probably actually be *faster* than
using software-based integer math.
I'm looking for an FPE to buy, BTW.

: Does a SecondSight board speedup or slow down jpeGS?

There's less work to do with Second Sight.
