I timed a jpeg on my MacLC and Rom1GS 8/64 ZipGS with 4Meg RamGS. The MacLC
is very basic. No extra video ram, 4Meg Ram, 12 RGB monitor (256 colors,
512 x 384 pixels) System 7.0. Jpegview3.3 was MacLC viewer.
Parrot JPEG from the Jpegview3.3 package. jpeGS used integer math option.
Both viewers set to display after opening.
No SecondSight
Open to finish display MacLC IIGS Rom1 Zip8/84
Jpegview 3.3 jpeGS v1.0
<20 secs 9 min 33 secs
256 color pic 16 color pic
Thus, jpeGS was over 25 times slower than the MacLC/Jpegview3.3 combo.
jpeGS needs at least a 20x speedup. 50-100 x speedup would be nice.
A jpeg viewer on a accelarated GS SHOULD be faster than a MacLC product.
So, Mark Lyon: Go For It! You've made a good base to start from.
Optimize the heck out jpeGS!
Does a SecondSight board speedup or slow down jpeGS?
