How true, the PC world (PC from IBM's original IBM PC Personal Computer) has 
gobbled up much of Apple's market. These days everyone and their brother is 
making an IBM (Intel Based Microcomputer) compatable computer for very low 
costs. It has been very competitive out there. 

If Apple had made a cheap upgrade to the //gs, or made them cheaper it could 
have gotten more market share. Or consider this, the Macintosh OS for the 
//GS? Why not, Berkley Software made a GEOSWorks for the //e and //gs? It 
would have made a cheap and easy to use Apple // product. But Apple wanted to 
sell its Macintosh rather than another Apple // product. 

If Apple would have allowed people to clone the Macintosh earlier there would 
have been more of a market for the Macintosh. 

Apple's problem of having surplus Macintosh computers could have been solved 
by offering discounts on the surplus computers to educators. Educators don't 
care if the Mac is 2 to 4 years old, as long as it will work, that's the main 
point. Apple used to do that with its leftover ][ and ][+ models. 

The Apple // line could have been built on, they could have made a faster 
65816 chip or even a 32 bit version of that chip, or better yet they could 
have put a 68020 in with the 65816 and have both processors working togeather 
with a Macintosh OS that uses the 65816 to run Apple // programs in a virtual 
window in the Macintosh OS.

I guess what will happen now is that Sun will make Apple write emulation 
software so that Solarius will be able to run Macintosh software? Or maybe 
even make a SPARC card for the PowerMacs to run Solarius on?
