Re: screwed up hard disk, maybe crash???

help if you can, whenever i boot my gs now, i get defaulted to the
"system6.0 program Launcher" and it makes some strange noises when
loading anything from the system folder. like it's a broken record stuck
somewhere, i'm hoping it's not permanent, but who knows, if at all
possible i would like to avoid formatting/buying a new hard disk, did it
crash or is it something else? btw, it's a 40 meg AE vulcan partitioned

I have the same problem with a HD i bought from Shreves Systems.
I am afraid it is permanent. What I have done is turn my HD 90 degrees on
the side which sometimes helps, but not permanently. Usually it works ok
for a few minutes until it slow down/speeds up/ gives noises.
So, I use this HD for simple storage and do the file transfer during the first
few minutes and use another HD for day-to-day operations.
