Found the solution to your monitor problem, at least for composite monitors!
The IIgs, according to p. 109 of my Owner's Manual, has TWO control
panels. There is the standard Desk Accessory control panel, through
Apple-Control-Escape. There is another menu which you get with:
OPTION-CONTROL-RESET
(RESET is the key with an equilateral triangle on it, "<|")
This should, according to my manual, bring up the following choices:
1. Enter the Control Panel.
2. Set system standards and 60 hertz.
3. Set system standards and 50 hertz.
4. Continue restarting the system.
It looks to me like you should try connecting your composite monitor and
selecting option (3) from that menu. You'll then have to go back to the
other control panel and select "Your Card" for the Disk ][ controller
again, since "Set system standards" means setting all of the slots except
Slot #7 to the port selections instead of to "Your Card."
Have fun!
