It's the recording scheme. MS-DOS uses MFM, while Apple 800k disks use
GCR. The disk controller in an Apple IIgs (IWM) does not support MFM.

I like the BlueDisk solution because it lets me use 1.72MB floppies
.. but I agree that a Floptical is a very nice thing to have,
especially since you can have 20MB on one disk (which makes my 1.72MB
look rather puny :).
