Nifty II+ demo?
Last summer I purchased a Commodore PET computer at a rummage sale for the
grand sum of five dollars. It was one of the early models with the
teeny-tiny keyboards (I had previously only heard legends about such
models, but never seen an actual physical specimen). There was an element
of nostalgia behind the purchase; when I was very young, I whiled away many
happy hours on the PETs at my school and public library (although the only
game I can now remember playing was "Lawnmower").
Anyway, since I was short on storage space in my apartment, I took the PET
to my part-time job at UMich's computing division, and set it up among the
various PowerPCs and Sun workstations, where it makes for a fairly amusing
sight. I wanted to compose a simple demo-style program (say, a large
digital clock) and let it run all the time, but unfortunately the PET
always croaks within two and ten minutes of being turned on.
Earlier this evening, it hit me: Wait a minute! I have a loaded II+ that
I bought about a year ago, and which was mostly been gathering dust since
then; why not take IT to work, too? I've just been reading through some
old c.s.a2 articles describing the stability of the entire II line when
left on for long periods of time, so I figure I can set up the II+ with
some nifty demos for my co-workers (who very occasionally give me crap
about my choice of computer) to be impressed with.
So, can anyone suggest any II+ demos appropriate for this purpose?
Programs available via FTP would be good, as well as descriptions of simple
demos that I could program myself (eg. the "moire pattern" demo that comes
on the 3.3 System Master, or the clock one I originally had in mind for the
PET). Heyyy, and come to think of it, there were a lot of good demos among
the entries in the "One-Liners and Two-Liners" contest that Nibble magazine
used to have for programs written in Applesoft BASIC, and I have dozens of
back issues. Cool!
Oh, and by the way, my II+ has only a B&W monitor, but does sport a
Mockingboard w/ external speakers.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
