I've been a regular on #appleiigs for almost 3 years now, chalking
up probably a few thousand hours on irc. (I'm past the denial stage,
but still seem to be addicted). During that, over 95% of my irc time,
I've been in #appleiigs. Others have been there longer. Can you
honestly expect us to talk GS (or even Apple II) all that time? Can
you carry a conversation after so long?
I can't. That's why I lurk a lot, not getting into certain topics,
or participating in others that do have some interest to me. If someone
drops by who wants to ask questions, I'll try and help out. If someone
wants 'warez' or wants to insult us, big mistake.
I'm pretty certain that your channel will suffer the same problem:
there's not that much new to talk about in the Apple II world, and
we're certainly not going to wait until newbies drop by to discuss
anything new or interesting. As I've said to others, you cannot drop
by a channel and expect to be entertained with that you want when you
want-- it must be a 2-way conversation.
I haven't been on irc at all the past 2 weeks (vacation in
Australia, where parents only have a 2400 modem and an hourly charge),
but if you want intelligent, knowledgable people, #appleiigs is still
your best bet.
