Actually, this might be a distortion of a definite problem:

I cannot boot System 6 or 6.0.1 with an Apple Rev C card on one of my
hard drives.  The card takes a long time to respond after a SCSI INIT
operation, and the SCSI Manager doesn't think the drive is there any more.

The same card works fine with my other hard drives, and this
particular drive works fine with my Apple High-Speed SCSI card and
System 6.0.1.  What is more, the Rev C/slow drive combination also
works with System 5.0.4.

Apple appears to have done something to the SCSI Manager (or SCSI hard
disk driver) in System 6.0 which causes it to behave a little
differently on a Rev C SCSI card, resulting in my old drive not working.
