well if it is an Apple IIgs you say...here are your options:

stick w/DOS 3.3 which is the latest version of DOS...
start using ProDOS 2.0.3 w/Basic.System 1.5....
GS/OS v4.01 / System 6.0.1 which will give a very mac like interface but 
really needs 2 3.5inch disks and better yet a hard drive to be really 
useful (as well as 1.25mb or more of RAM!)
