With all the recent talk about Macs and 800k disks and bug fixes for
HFS.FST, I have a question...
I've formatted exactly one 3.5" 800k disk as an HFS disk. I copied a GIF
graphic to that, and brought the disk in to my printer, popped it into
his
Mac 880AV, and was rudely informed by the Mac Finder that the disk was
unreadable. However, upon running PhotoShop, that recognized the disk
and
even saw that there was a GIF graphic on the disk, but it couldn't load
it
in. When I got home and verified the disk on my GS, it was fine.
So...will this recent bug-fix allow disks formatted on a GS to be read
on
a Mac...or was my problem just an isolated event?

With respect to the above noted post - I can assure you, the problem is
consistant with me also and it's rather frustrating!. I have the use of
a IIGS and a Mac. Even after applying the HFS.FST patch, the same
problems exist with the two Apple computer - (Mac and IIGS). My simple
solution has been to format a ProDOS 800k disk on the Mac (using system
7.5.1) with the pc exchange extension installed and active. Then taking
that disk from the Mac to the IIGS, copying the file I want to use on
the Mac, taking that disk back over to the Mac, for correct read and/or
copy, etc.
It appears to me that the Mac can format both; HFS and ProDOS disks,
that the IIGS can read and understand the contents of - with no
problems. But, the IIGS can't do the same for use with the Mac, when
format of either HFS or ProDOS is done on my IIGS!
