That question doesn't quite make sense. The operating system doesn't
"support" file types, except for standard ones that are commonly used
by many programs (e.g. applications of various types). Specific
programs included with the System Software support a range of file
types (e.g. "Teach" can handle TXT and Teach files).
Separate applications generally have their own file types for
product-specific data files.
Did you perhaps mean to ask for a list of all file types known by
Finder? This is by no means a complete list, as there have been
several new file types created since System 6.0.1 was released, and
Finder never had a complete list anyway.
The file types known by Finder are listed in the FType.Apple file in
the Icons folder of your system disk. This is a specialy formatted
binary file, so it is not easy to extract this information without
writing a utility program.
If you just want a list of as many defined file types as possible, a
good starting point is the index to the Apple II File Type Notes, in
the file FTN.Index.xxxx (xxxx is the date), which should be available
from ftp.apple.com, somewhere under the /dts/aii directory.
This list is far from complete. There may be a more up-to-date list
of known filetypes on GEnie, as the people in charge of the A2Pro
roundtable are now responsible for assigning filetypes.
