Aha! I _knew_ I wasn't alone! Way back, for me at least, in the mid-late
eighties, I took a class at the local CommCollege in "intro to computers" or
something like that. It was one of those courses that you take as a kid
to look really cool. Anyways, the teacher used to use a computer with a
LCD display on an overhead, and also a monitor for him. (some sort of
ibm clone) Anyways, I used to physically cringe when he turned on that
monitor, because the thing would squeal SO LOUD that I would get a
headache for days. No one else seemed to be affected this way. It was
unreal. I was about 40-50 feet away from him and my eyes used to water
when he would turn that demon on. My point is: be kind. This is very,
very, VERY real. Those kids may be really, really, really suffering.
Try and change to a different monitor.
Here's a test you can run on them to see if they are legit: (this
one used to amaze my friends time and time again...) Go into the
computer lab, assuming you have one, during a time when there is no one
in there. Turn on one monitor. Bring in the student with his eyes
closed. Walk him/her around the lab, as they home in on the monitor.
(hotter, colder, whatever) If they are legit, they will get it
everytime. Then leave them all on, and bring them in, and see if they
try and find it. They'll be able to tell that there are none on, wait
and see. These "tests" used to win me quite a bit of cash around the school.
