You seem to have two different problems. The first is that lynx wants
to talk to a terminal type that can do both bold and underline (and
reverse if possible). It's so intent on this aesthetic that it hides
the cursor for you in the corner of the screen.

Fortunately, you can start it with "-show_cursor" to prevent this. This
means that the currently selected link will have the flashing cursor on
it, so you'll know which one you're pointing to. You can make this even
more useful by doing away with the "underlining", either by messing
with your terminal type on your Unix box, or by telling your terminal
program to only highlight for bold and reverse (this is in Misc/Preferences/
More for ProTerm 3).

Instead of starting lynx with "lynx -show_cursor" all the time, you can
build it so that that's the default. If you're not up to that, just alias
"lynx" to be "lynx -show_cursor" and leave it at that. You can see some
of the other lynx options with "lynx -h".

I mentioned another problem: the spurious character thing is either line
noise, or a flow-control problem at your end. If you're using a high-speed
modem, you'll need to set the port rate high and build or buy a "Mac"
hardware flow-control cable. I believe this is mentioned in the csa2 FAQ.

If you're not using a high-speed or error-correcting modem, it's probably
line noise.
