I heard that joystick control was an "easter egg" in the original
version of Thexder -- one holds down 'J' while loading the program or
something. In version 2.7 (?), activating joystick control is simply
a matter of pressing the joystick button at the title screen, I think.
The "Game Hacker" CDA might have something which automatically
activates the joystick easter egg in the original version, in addition
to giving you infinite energy in either version.
The newer version of Thexder also saves games automatically. Pressing
'H' while playing will take you to the highest level ever reached, and
'L' or 'R' or something will take you to the level reached in the most
recent game.
This is all off the top of my head -- everyone, feel free to correct
me on the details.
