bitmapped graphics on laserwriter?

i have an original laserwriter connected to a IIgs running system 6.01.
while i have no problem printing documents with text and/or vector based
graphics, i am unable to print any document that contains bitmapped
graphics. is this really not possible, or is there some solution? i can
find no indication in any of the documentation that i have that bitmapped
graphics will not print from the laserwriter. thanks in advance to
anyone who can help with this. --robb
