I assume it is one of the ProDOS versions of AppleWriter for the IIe,
not the DOS 3.3 version or an Apple ][+ version.
Which version of AppleWorks? How much desktop space is available?
What sort of document are you trying to set up (word processor,
database or spreadsheet)? How are you converting and/or importing the
document?
Define "breaking the file at inappropriate places". Is it chopping
the end of the file off, putting unexpected line breaks in, or what?
How long are the lines in the original document?
The most likely explanation I can think of, given your description, is
that you are importing into a word processor document, the lines in the
original document are longer than 60 columns, and AppleWorks is
inserting line breaks at 60 columns, because it has default left and
right margins of 1 inch.
If this is the problem, you can fix it by entering smaller left and
right margins at the start of the word processor document, after the
AppleWriter document has been imported. Type Apple-O, then enter
"LM", "0", "RM" and "0". This will disable the margins completely,
giving you room for 78 columns.
If this is not the problem, you'll need to give a clearer description.
