After responding to Jack, and asking why he posted this on the newsgroup 
instead of sending me an email letter (since it was I who posted APTEST), 
I downloaded the APTEST files, decoded them, uncompressed them, and 
tested the resulting diagnostic diskette. I found no problem. If anyone 
else is having trouble downloading these files, let's discuss it by email.
