Continuing saga of installing my Zip GSX

At the suggestion of a fellow newsgroup reader, I switched my Ramfast
card to slot 2 from slot 7 so that it would be before my 9 mhz 32K Zip
card (slot 3) in case there were any DMA issues between them. This had
no affect on the problems that I described previously on 10/17 (posting #
11228). But I may have made a major breakthrough! Just as I was about
to give up on the card, I decided to go into the control panel and change
the system speed from fast to normal (not the Zip card speed). Wah lah!
Now everything works again. However, I now notice that on booting up,
GSOS 6.01 loads much slower from the hard drive (approx 37 seconds) and
no matter what speed I configure the Zip card to (6% to 100%) there
doesn't seem to be any noticeable speed increase or decrease when I
restart (cold or warm reboot). Before, GSOS would load very quickly
but crash into the Ramfast ROM menu before the Finder appeared. Also,
changing any or all slot speeds from normal to fast or vice versa seems
to have no affect either although I'm sure I have not tried every
possible combination.
So it appears that the card does not operate properly in any mode
except normal 1 mhz speed. What could cause this problem? Is all that
is required merely changing the card speed in the zip control panel and
warm booting? Maybe the card is working but loading GSOS is not affected
by the card speed setting? Help!
By the way, I failed to mention previously that I have an A.E. GS ram
III memory card populated with 2 meg of ram but I pretty sure this card
is DMA compatible.
