As I recall, Apple UCSD Pascal 1.3 could boot from slots 4, 5 or 6, 
mapping drive 1 to unit 4 and drive 2 to unit f5. Drives in other slots 
mapped to units 11 & 12.

Tech note #10 describes the operation of SYSTEM.ATTACH, used to install 
third-party device drivers:

IIRC, hard drives like OKS and Sider modified the Pascal boot block to 
boot from slot 7.
