Old 20 MB Hard Drives + IIGS?

I've got a bunch of old (1985) 20 MB Apple Hard Drives. These
drives are _NOT_ SCSI compatible and appear to connect via the
floppy connector. I think they are classified as serial devices
though. Inside the case is a non-SCSI Rodime drive. I believe
they were originally intended for use with a 512K Mac or Mac Plus.

Can I use these drives on any of the Apple II series computers,
especially a IIGS? I called 800-SOS-APPL and they said these
drives won't work with a IIGS, but they didn't seem to know much
about the Apple II line.

I will probably try connecting one of these drive to a IIGS later
this week, but I don't expect too much without any software specific
to this application. Any insight into these drives or pointers to
useful FAQ files would be appreciated.
