Basis was once the official Apple distributor for Germany. I believe
they had some legal trouble with Apple when they sold their compatibles
(which are to my knowledge not exact clones since they had many additional
features, e.g. on-board Z80 card, better (external) keyboards and the
like).

I don't know much about them, except they were quite popular in Germany,
especially for running CP/M.
I remember people saying that Basis did what Apple should have done after
the ][+.

Hmmm... maybe this is a typo, but I miss a valid variable identifier
behind the LET keyword. Other than that, I can't think of a reason why
this should not work.
